WHAT:
Mindful Eating is a 6-week program that uses mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) techniques as the basis for learning how to create a healthy relationship with your food, mind, and body. Studies have shown that following a “mindful eating” practice helps people identify and change their eating habits, without having to count calories. The Program is a “non diet” approach to eating that advocates self acceptance and body acceptance as the first steps towards change. Program facilitators, Amy Chiconas and Karl Duffy, use a compassionate approach to help participants re-learn how to use their internal physical cues to guide what, when and how to eat. The Program will teach the basics of mindfulness and its applications to eating, as well as relevant research on the myriad messages we get daily about food and our bodies. Begin 2012 anew by discovering how you can nourish and heal your Self with a mindful approach to food!

WHEN:
April 18, 25 / May 2, 9, 16, 23
19h - 21h30

WHERE:
Webster University Geneva
15 Route de Collex
1293 Bellevue, Geneva

DETAILS:
The program consists of six total sessions. The Program will take place one evening per week (for 2.5 hours each evening), over the course of six weeks. Sessions will include instruction in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) (sitting meditations, body scan, eating meditations, and mindful yoga). Group discussions and exercises will address the experiential component of the classes, and will emphasize the application of mindfulness, mindful eating principles, and current research in order to facilitate change in your relationship with food and your body.
* Please note: Weekly practice assignments - to be done at home - will help you develop mindfulness skills and apply them to the ways in which you eat, think about eating, and relate to your body. It is expected that participants will attend all six sessions and will commit to approximately 15-30 minutes of meditation per day for the duration of the Program. A CD of the mindfulness practices and weekly handouts will be provided as learning aids.
